A cross section of Kogi Youths under the auspices of Kogi Youth Advocates for Good Governance (KYGG) has condemned an orchestrated attack on a front line gubernatorial candidate Professor Seidu Onailo Mohammed during a peaceful protest on Monday at the headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during a media briefing in Lokoja, Kogi State Capital on Tuesday, Convener of the forum, Comrade Jerry Ochada described the attack as another bid to distract the frontrunner and other aspirants in the race.

Ochada enjoined politicians and their supporters to embrace peace before, during and after the November 16 gubernatorial election in the confluence State.

"We condemn in strong terms the attack on the convoy of Professor Seidu Onalo Mohammed at the Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress during a peaceful protest on Monday 8th July 2019. The attack is highly unfortunate because democracy is a style of government which permits a level playing ground for all and sundry. Political actors are should shun every form of violence especially on perceived opponents because politics is not a one man business.

"Politics is not a game of war; it is an engagement for the best hands to test their popularity and render selfless service to the nation. Therefore, it is unethical for any politician to utilize State power or monopoly of violence to cause chaos, injuries, death and rancor.

"We are tasking the relevant security agencies to bring the perpetrators of this dastardly act to book and ensure the security of all aspirants participating in the forthcoming elections against further attack. We also wish to use this medium to call on the Inspector General of Police to ensure adequate security of lives and properties during the primary election. Allegations of political intimidation during the last general election should also be investigated with the culprits brought to book to serve as deterrence to intending political detractors".

Recall that the convoy of Prof. Mohammed, a former Director General of the National Agency for Space Research and Development (NASRDA) was attacked yesterday during a peaceful protest against indirect primaries. The Prado Jeep was conveying a staunch supporter of the APC, Comrade Moses Abdullahi and friends to the party's Secretariat.
